HOW TO CATCH & SPEAR FISH

If you haven't bought one of these Individual Multi-Purpose Survival (IMPS) Nets from Brigade Quartermasters, you don't know what you're missing. Check out this advertisement.

I bought me one of these years ago and I gotta tell ya, "they're pretty damn handy" whether you're in the military or not, and I guarantee you'll find lot of uses for it too. And here's one of my favorite uses, "catchin fish" with it.

When used as a fishing net, wait until  the fish are directly over the center portion of the net, (the big ones, NOT the little ones).
Then quickly raise it up.  Note: I used  my fiberglass tent poles and some 550 para-cord to make this neat trap.

Of course if you ain't got one of these IMPS nets and no fishing hooks & line neither, then the only other way you're gonna have a chance in having a fish for dinner is to try to spear one. Have ya ever tried it? To spear a fish in a creek or pond? Have ya? If you have, then you probably know it ain't so easy to do. And what pisses me off are survival books and sites that make it sound so easy, like you're gonna learn real fast how to do it when you're actually in a life or death survival situation. (Yea, right, in your dreams bozo!) And what makes matters worse, they don't even teach you any techniques in how to practice and become proficient at it neither,

Well here's a training technique you won't find in any book or website, and the only thing needed is a piece of wood, a drill, and a saw. Check it out!
To anchor it down in the water, just tie some string or wire to the 3x bottom holes and attach it to a rock or heavy piece of metal.
You remember reading on those other survival sites "and just aim and throw the spear slightly below the fish." Here's why!

Also, if ya got room in your survival kit ya might wanna pack a few extra large fishing hooks too. Why? Well because a spear fishing technique that I've found to be useful is to attach/tie them to the end of the spear just above the point. So if you happen to miss the fish with the main point, you got a second chance at "snagging it" with a hook. And if ya are lucky enough to spear one, it'll help keep the fish on the end of the spear too. Check it out.

IMPORTANT: To make the "barb" stick out further, bend the hook and with the point of a knife make a short deep slit in the wood so the hook will stay in place and protrude outward until you spear or snag a fish. Warning: If there's lots of vegetation growing in the water, be careful not to "snag" any weeds or you just might lose a hook, or your spear too.
